The two questions almost every first-time patient asks are “how long will it last?” and “will I still look like myself?” Both have straightforward answers, and neither involves the frozen expression the internet promises.
How long results last
- First treatment — typically 3 to 4 months.
- After two or three treatments — often 4 to 6 months, as the treated muscles gradually weaken with repeated use.
Duration varies with dose, the muscle treated, your metabolism and how expressive you are. People who exercise intensely often metabolise it slightly faster. Strong forehead and frown muscles may need a higher dose to hold the same length of time.
When will I see it working?
- Day 3–4 — the first softening becomes noticeable.
- Day 10–14 — the full effect settles. This is the point at which the result should be judged.
What the appointment actually involves
It is genuinely quick. The injections themselves take about 10 to 15 minutes, using very fine needles; most people describe it as a brief pinch rather than pain. Numbing cream can be applied for sensitive areas.
Before anything is injected, a proper consultation should cover which muscles are creating your lines, your medical history, and what result you actually want.
Afterwards
- Small raised bumps at the injection sites settle within an hour.
- Stay upright for four hours and avoid rubbing or massaging the area.
- Skip the gym, sauna and steam for 24 hours.
- Mild bruising is possible, particularly around the eyes, and covers easily with makeup after a day.
There is no meaningful downtime — this is genuinely a lunch-hour treatment.

Botox is usually priced per unit, and the number of units depends on the area and your muscle strength — which is why a per-area quote is only meaningful after an assessment.

Be cautious of unusually cheap per-unit pricing. Under-dosing produces a result that fades in six weeks, which is not a saving.
Will I look frozen?
Not if it is dosed and placed properly. The frozen look comes from too much product, treating too many muscles, or treating the wrong ones. A well-planned treatment softens the lines while leaving you able to raise your eyebrows and show expression.
If you are unsure, start conservatively. It is straightforward to add a little more at the two-week review; it is not possible to remove it once injected. Any practitioner willing to start light is giving you good advice.

The same medication is used for several non-cosmetic indications, including excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis), jaw clenching and grinding (bruxism), and jawline slimming via the masseter muscle — the latter being a common request in India.

What happens if I stop?
Your muscles gradually return to their previous strength and the lines return to how they were. It does not make wrinkles worse than before — that is a persistent myth.
What age should I start?
